Hours after the debut of Apple's newest iPhone, Sprint is offering a special plan for those who want to can not wait to get the iPhone 6. The new plan promises unlimited calls, texting, and data for only a monthly fee of $50.00. Furthermore , Sprint has established an iPhone for life trade-in program that should give customers an opportunity to own the newest iPhone version every two years. Sprint's newest $50 iPhone Only plan is available here.
Just last month, the carrier had launched a $60 per month unlimited individual plan, but this newest $50 plan promises even lesser costs for customers. As for the iPhone for life trade-in program, it gives customers a chance to save on future iPhone purchases, although if one looks closely, the program is more like renting iPhones than actually owning them.
By paying $20.00 every month, customers can get hold of a 16-gigabyte iPhone 6 on September 19. They can later trade in that iPhone 6 for any new Apple smartphone after a couple of years. That is $480 in total over the course of 24 months. As for customers who want to buy the iPhone, they can choose to finance it over a period of two years by paying $30.00 every month, that is after making a $58.00 down payment, or they can opt to sign up for a two-year contract (with $20.00 monthly payments).
However, contract devices are usually priced a bit high -- for the service plan, customers have to pay $85.00, which is kinda steep. If customers select that option, they will end up paying a total of $1,040.00 for the iPhone over the course of two years.
Sprint obviously is making the most of the iPhone launch. At the least, it knows the advantage of taking one step ahead of its competitors. However, other carriers may follow its lead, and let us face it -- there is still a lot of time before the iPhone hits stores this month.
Sprint, to its credit, has chosen the right smartphone for its plan. The iPhone 6 after all is the first iOS handset that can support the new Spark network by the carrier.
But there is a catch. It should be noted that with the trade-in program, if the customer breaks
the phone, he has to buy it -- unless he has insurance.
It may too early to tell just how many customers will take Sprint's bait. But with the excitement over the iPhone 6's release, it is hard to imagine why people will not. As for Sprint, kudos to the company for making the first move. Now it is the competitors' turn.
