Today's news appears to close the final chapter in a heart-wrenching tale of a once lauded smartphone's fall from glory. Just weeks after Verizon Wireless elected to pass on Google's self-proclaimed "superphone," Sprint is confirming that it too will be giving the Google Nexus One the cold shoulder in favor of the HTC EVO 4G.
In an email to mobile phone news site Phone Scoop, Sprint spokesperson Michelle Leff confirmed what was already made fairly obvious by the removal of all references to the Sprint Nexus One, saying "We are not bringing in Nexus One as EVO 4G is more robust in 3G markets and amazing in the growing number of 4G areas."
Still scheduled to arrive on Sprint's network sometime this summer, the EVO 4G surpasses the Nexus One in almost every respect. As the nation's first mobile phone with WiMAX support, the EVO boasts 4G wireless speeds in addition to a better camera and a significantly larger screen than the Nexus One.
