Things just got even more interesting in the iPhone 6s price wars. Sprint just recently introduced a new special offer wherein subscribers who decide to trade in their current iPhone 6 devices can get a 16 gigabyte edition of Apple's new iPhone 6s by paying only $1 each month, or a 16 gigabyte edition of the new iPhone 6s Plus for just $5 each month.
This new offer is part of Sprint’s iPhone Forever program, and the wireless carrier is making its offer available for a limited time only, specifying no exact end date for the promo. For those not in the know, the iPhone Forever program allows current or new subscribers of Sprint to become eligible for new iPhones as soon as a new model gets launched.
Sprint’s latest offer is clearly an answer to T-Mobile’s new trade in program. On Wednesday just this week, T-Mobile had announced a new Jump! On Demand deal in which mobile users looking to buy the new iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus can get one for as low as $5 a month (for the 16 gigabyte edition of the iPhone 6s) or $9 a month (for the 16 gigabyte edition of the iPhone 6s Plus) if they are willing to trade in an existing iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus device.
Both Sprint and T-Mobile have been trying to one up each other for as long as forever, but the competition has reached another level in the past few months, especially ever since T-Mobile overtook Sprint as the third biggest wireless carrier in the United States in terms of customer base size. Of course, T-Mobile’s lead is not by much, which is why Sprint has been matching every new deal and promo that T-Mobile is introducing.
As for Sprint’s plan, how does it work exactly? Basically, customers who are eyeing to buy the 16 gigabyte edition of the iPhone 6s will pay the $1 a month for a period of 21 months. Beyond that duration of time, customers essentially have three choices: 1) Continue to keep the handset, but the rate would go back to $22 a month; 2) Purchase the handset when the lease ends, and then end up paying the standard purchase option price of $187; or 3) Trade in the device for the next newest iPhone model, with the $1 a month lease ending and then enter into another new lease contract for the new device.
Customers should note though that Sprint’s $1 a month offer only applies to those who trade in iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus devices. If customers trade in an iPhone 5s, the price goes up to $10 a month for the 16 gigabyte edition of the iPhone 6s, and $14 a month for the 16 gigabyte edition of the iPhone 6s Plus. For any other device traded in, the promo rate is $15 a month for the 16 gigabyte iPhone 6s.
Sprint’s new trade in offer officially goes live on Friday, the launch date of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus in the US market. For more Sprint deals, you can explore plans and phones from Sprint at Wirefly now.
