According to a study conducted by Match.com and Research Now, Android mobile users are 15 times as likely to unfavorably judge a date for using an iPhone device. On the other extreme, owners of iPhone devices are 21 times more likely to negatively judge a date for owning an Android powered handset.
Back in the days, it used to be between the Coca Cola and the Pepsi crowds, but in the age of mobile devices, it is now Android versus iOS. Of course, people are not that crazy (yet) -- arguments do ensue, but most of them are of the teasing kind. But this latest study does confirm one thing -- we really do tend to favor our own, even over people who could be potential partners for life (or for a long time).
Windows Mobile was not included in the survey because let us face it -- it really is about the two most widely used mobile operating systems in the world. For sure, there are Windows Mobile users out there, but when going out on a date, it might be best to put your best foot (in this case, the operating system of your mobile device) forward.
Which brings us back to the study -- funnily enough, people who still use a smartphone with a cracked display screen have more to worry about. The research findings from Match.com indicates that female mobile users are 86 percent more likely to negatively judge a male mobile user who happens to own a visibly damaged handset.
Other results of Match.com’s study are equally interesting. For instance, 26 percent of those surveyed stated that they will be turned on when the date does not currently own a social media account. 29 percent of respondents also claim that they would definitely appreciate it if a date actually makes an effort to call them. Half of the study’s participants also admitted that too much activity on social media is a turn off. Finally, 66 percent of those who took the survey found it unfavorable when a date is busy sending text messages to somebody else during the date.
It can no longer be denied that smartphones have now become a big part of our lives, and in the process, for better or worse, it has also become a sort of gauge for most people in determining a suitable future boyfriend or girlfriend or spouse. The good news is -- our mobile lives do not necessarily define who we really are, but as this recent study shows, it might be a factor when it comes to first impressions.
