T-Mobile has just announced that its new T-Mobile One Military pricing plan now comes with a 20 percent discount on the first line of service and then a 50 percent discount on up to five extra voice lines. This new pricing plan is made available to members of the military and their families, or small businesses owned by current or former military personnel. For good measure, the plan promises a 50 percent discount on a Galaxy S9, a Galaxy S9 Plus, or a Galaxy S8 Active unit.
According to the third largest wireless service provider in the United States, the discounting pricing of the new T-Mobile One Military plan should equate to savings of $764 on a yearly basis for a family consisting of four members, as compared to similar plans offered by rival Verizon Wireless, and savings of $665 compared to AT&T.
The debut of its new T-Mobile One Military pricing plan should fit nicely with the Uncarrier’s recently made pledge to hire a total of 10,000 vets and spouses of military within the next half decade. On top of that, T-Mobile is also looking to finance a career readiness initiative, while planning to continue to improve LTE connectivity in US military bases.
T-Mobile, of course, is no stranger to offering plans designed for specific target markets. For instance, back in August of last year, the major US wireless carrier had debuted its T-Mobile One Unlimited 55+ plan. This deal was made available to users who are at least 55 years old. Priced at $50 for one line of service, the plan already comes with unlimited data, voice call minutes, and text messaging. For the second line, those availing need only pay an additional ten bucks.
With regards to the new T-Mobile One Military pricing plan, it can be viewed simply as a natural extension of the mobile operator’s aggressive efforts in segment expansion, even as it continues to complete its plans for geographic expansion as well.
Going back to segment expansion, T-Mobile is actually trying to hit two birds with one stone -- attracting specific a demographic of mobile users, while at the same time, working to steal away existing customers from the competition. Some may remember that nearly a couple of months ago, industry leader Verizon Wireless had introduced a plan in Florida geared for users who are 55 years old or older. This plan offered a line of service with unlimited data at a price of $60 each month, or two lines for $80 every month.
