During its major Uncarrier X event held today in the city of Los Angeles, California, T-Mobile just announced that it is boosting the data on its Simple Choice plans. The wireless carrier has indeed confirmed that it is increasing the high speed data of Simple Choice data buckets to twice their previous size. To summarize, here are the previous data buckets and the changes made to them:
1 gigabyte of high speed data -- boosted to 2 gigabytes of high speed data
3 gigabytes of high speed data -- boosted to 6 gigabytes of high speed data
5 gigabytes of high speed data -- boosted to 10 gigabytes of high speed data
The really cool thing about these changes is that subscribers of T-Mobile can fully enjoy them without any change to the cost.
Apart from doubling the data on its Simple Choice plans, T-Mobile also took the opportunity to unveil a new service during its Uncarrier X event. The newest promotion is called Family Match, and basically it allows all the lines of service of family plan to enjoy twice the data for the same price when all the lines have the same amount of data.
Subscribers start with a single line of service costing $50 a month, with 2 gigabytes of high speed data. The second line of service is offered at $30 a month, with the same 2 gigabytes of high speed data. Any extra lines of service up to 12 are offered at $10 a month. As for those who required additional bytes of data, they can just purchase 4 extra gigabytes at $15 for each line of service, however with Family Match, subscribers can enjoy savings of up to $15 for each line of service when every member of the group adds data.
Also know that for a limited time only, T-Mobile will be offering the fourth line of service of a family plan absolutely free of charge. With 6 gigabytes of high speed data offered at $30 for each line of service, one can avail of a family plan that comes with four lines of service at $120 a month.
The past couple of years has seen T-Mobile try to shake up the entire wireless industry, or at least traditional notions of how wireless services are offered to customers, through its 10 Uncarrier initiatives. It started by uncoupling the handset’s costs from service costs in 2013, and then went from there to paying early termination fees, launching the Jump! upgrade program, offering unlimited text messaging and 2G data in a hundred countries, allowing free streaming music from Spotify, Rdio, iTunes Radio, and Pandora, week long free trial subscriptions to T-Mobile, Wi-Fi calling services, data rollover schemes, and low cost plans for business establishments.
