Families or groups of users with extensive wireless needs may do well to check out T-Mobile's new unlimited data family plan. Beginning Wednesday, December 10th of this year, T-Mobile will be offering its customers a family plan (under the carrier's Simple Choice wireless brand) that provides a couple of lines of service for $100 each month.
This new family plan from T-Mobile not only offers unlimited calls and unlimited text messaging, it also offers users unlimited LTE data. And if subscribers decide to add another handset (the family plan allows a maximum total of 10 handsets), they will just have to pay $40 monthly for each additional new line of service.
There are some caveats. Those who subscriber under this new family plan should take note that they can use their smartphones as mobile hotspots, but only for the first 5 gigabytes of data in each month.
Having said that, T-Mobile's new family plan still seems to be a great offer, not only for existing subscribers but also for new customers as well. Indeed, under this new plan, a family or group with four members will end up paying only $45 per person every month. Now compare that to T-Mobile's unlimited individual plan, which leaves users paying $80 each month for their plans.
Also, T-Mobile's new family plan helps apply pressure on the data pricing structure of other wireless carriers, namely Verizon Wireless and AT&T, both of whom do not offer unlimited data to their new customers.
Users need to be reminded though that with T-Mobile's new family plan, the carrier does not subsidize its devices, which means subscribers will have to purchase the devices either via installments or by paying the full retail price upfront.
Now that the holiday season is underway, we are bound to hear lots of special offers from the four major wireless carriers in the United States (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless). But no doubt many people are delighted to know that T-Mobile is really showing an effort to offer plans that customers can really find useful. The carrier's new unlimited data family plan certainly makes data sharing more efficient and fun, especially for families with extensive data needs who longer have to worry over which member is hogging all the bandwidth to himself or herself.
Moreover, T-Mobile has vowed that data on the unlimited family plan will never be throttled, which may be a slight dig at AT&T but is surely music to the ears of T-Mobile's subscribers.
