T-Mobile has announced that its next Uncarrier event is set to happen on Monday, June 6 next week. John Legere, the chief executive officer of the third biggest wireless carrier in America, has recently extended an invitation via a tweet, saying that T-Mobile is planning to live stream the event beginning 1 PM ET. On top of that, the mobile service provider also decided to set up a countdown page on its official website.
So what can we expect from this upcoming Uncarrier event? The invitation that T-Mobile released features a graphic of a volume dial set at 11. Can mobile users expect a new service that is somehow related to music?
Ever since T-Mobile launched the first Uncarrier event back in March of 2013, there have been a total of 10 so far, with rather mixed results. But there have been landmark Uncarrier events. The first one was quite unprecedented at that time -- a bid to get rid of standard two year agreements in lieu of equipment installment plans. This move caused a great stir in the wireless industry in the United States, and basically got other major wireless carriers in the country to eventually follow T-Mobile’s example. Then relatively recently in 2014, T-Mobile started offering to pay off the early termination fees of customers under contract if they decide to switch to T-Mobile’s network. This decision might have been costly in the outset, but ultimately proved to a major win for the wireless carrier.
Another one of T-Mobile’s recent hits, the Binge On service, was actually unveiled via an Uncarrier X event in November of last year. Popular despite going through some controversy, the Binge On feature allows subscribers of T-Mobile to view zero rated video content, never needing to worry about their data allotments getting affected.
Despite the success stories, there have been Uncarrier offerings that never quite took off with the masses. For instance, Test Drive debuted in June of 2014, but was later discontinued after a year with the deployment of a month long guarantee exclusively for subscribers on Jump! On Demand, a program targeted to users looking to upgrade their mobile devices.
Various executives from T-Mobile have been hinting about Uncarrier 11 for some weeks now, but for the sake of creating suspense, no definite details have been made public so far. Still, a month ago there were reports that the wireless carrier was planning to debut a branded mobile app that will let subscribers win prizes from various T-Mobile partners, including Vudu and Wendy’s.
