Mobile virtual network operator Ting will be introducing the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S on customer plans later this September. This should be delightful news to iPhone owners who currently do not have plans of (or have not gotten around to) owning the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Beginning September 29th of this year, Ting subscribers can activate their iPhone 5S's or iPhone 5C's that were bought through Sprint to the MVNO's plans. Or, they can choose to buy a reconditioned handset from Ting partner company Glyde, or from authorized sellers like eBay or Amazon.
Because Ting currently uses Sprint's countrywide network, the activated iPhone 5C's and iPhone 5S's will be LTE-ready. While other prepaid services, like Virgin Mobile for instance, use Sprint's network, users will only be allowed to bring handsets that were originally bought from Sprint into Ting's plans. However, Ting has stated that as for now, it can not activate smartphones from any other carrier.
Apart from supporting iPhone 5 devices, Ting's plans are also compatible with the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. Apple devices aside, Ting also offers other popular Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Google Nexus 5, and the LG G2.
As for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus -- well, the new iPhone versions will both be activated in Ting plans eventually, but Sprint will likely hold on to the newly launched devices perhaps for the next twelve months or so. This means that realistically speaking, customers may have to wait until late 2015.
But continuing to use your iPhone 5 devices as opposed to getting the new iPhone 6 versions is still not a bad idea. After all, last year's iPhone is still pretty much a nifty handset to have. Plus, by bringing your own phone to a Ting plan, you can save some money.
As for Ting, it has always offered flexible options for customers who do not want to commit to a rigid plan. The MVNO offers call, texting, and data options that let users pay only for what they use on a monthly basis. The company does this by billing voice, text, and data usage separately, which means its customers will definitely not pay for any feature that they are not using.
Ting plans start as little as $3.00 monthly for either 100 minutes of calls, 100 text messages, or 100 megabytes of data -- if a user avails of all three, he or she will pay $9.00 each month. Despite the $6.00 monthly charge for each handset added to your account, there are no minimum monthly plan costs. As long as you do not make any calls or use your phone for the entire month, you will only pay for the $6.00 handset fee.
