Almost every wireless carrier in the United States is trying to make changes to their respective wireless services in order to provide the most attractive smartphone deals possible for their customers. Now US Cellular is joining in on the fun. The fifth biggest wireless carrier in America has just revealed that it is overhauling the pricing of its Shared Connect monthly plans, essentially getting rid of a number of plans entirely and then incorporating a brand new data option.
According to US Cellular, the main reason for making the changes is to simplify its monthly plan options for subscribers. But industry watchers would be willing to bet that the wireless carrier’s latest move is a clear effort to entice current subscribers of rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T to switch to US Cellular’s less expensive monthly deals.
For reference, the updated pricing of US Cellular’s Shared Connect plans now include:
The seven Shared Connect monthly plans listed above already come with unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and data tethering. Those familiar with US Cellular’s Shared Connect monthly data plans may notice that the 8 gigabyte, 14 gigabyte, and 16 gigabyte plans are nowhere to be found. Well, US Cellular obviously thinks subscribers can do well not to avail of those plans, although those who are currently subscribing to these scrapped monthly plans will not be made to switch to a new monthly plan for now. Virtually all of of US Cellular’s monthly plans offer more data for less compared to plans from Verizon Wireless or AT&T, but if mobile users really look hard enough, they can get cheaper deals from other wireless carriers such as T-Mobile, Sprint, and other prepaid service providers and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs).
Also, it should be noted that the adjusted prices listed above do not include the line connection fees that subscribers will have to pay every month for each mobile device connected to their plan. Customers who are purchasing a handset via US Cellular’s Equipment Installment Plan will pay $20 a month, for each line of service on plans of 6 gigabytes of monthly data or less, and $15 a month, for each line of service on plans of 10 gigabytes of monthly data or more.
