As long as your old smartphone is still in good working condition, you always have the option of trading it in for a new one. But if your handset has some visible damages, like a cracked display screen for instance, it would really be challenging for you to find a trade in deal that will accept your device.
Fortunately for you, US Cellular has a deal you might want to check out. The fifth biggest wireless carrier in America has decided to offer as much as $300 in trade in value for old smartphones, even those with clearly damaged display screens. All you have to do is port your mobile phone number to the wireless carrier, surrender your old handset, and then get to receive up to $300 in promotional cards when you purchase a new device and add it to your smartphone plan.
To become eligible though, customers will need to purchase a new smartphone from US Cellular either online or in store, where they will handed a US Cellular promo card worth $100 at the point of sale (or have it mailed to the customers together with the new handset they bought). As for those who purchased through online means, they must go to US Cellular’s official web page for trade in deals after their handset has been delivered or activated, and then submit their claim form.
With regards to their old smartphone, customers will need to print out the prepaid shipping label and use it in surrendering their old handset to US Cellular. As soon as the wireless carrier determines that the old smartphone received is eligible, it will mail a second promo card worth $200. It should be noted though that smartphones with cracked display screens are acceptable, the device must otherwise be in good working condition, with no water damage whatsoever.
As for the $300 worth of promo cards, customers can only use them in US Cellular locations, or at the wireless carrier’s online store. This could be a bummer to some users because it basically means that they are limited in what they can buy using their trade in cash. But don’t freak out just yet -- the same promo card restrictions do not apply to US Cellular’s contract buyout offer, which refunds users for any early termination fees or final device payments incurred when they switch allegiances from another wireless carrier to US Cellular. Customers again will be required to port their old mobile phone number to a new US Cellular plan, and then hand in their old smartphone from the other wireless carrier. Plus, they will need to purchase a new device via an installment pricing plan, and also buy the wireless carrier’s Device Protection + insurance package ($8.99 a month).
