Here is some interesting bit of news for customers of Verizon Wireless who do not have mobile phone insurance yet -- the biggest mobile operator in America has announced an open enrollment period for all of its existing subscribers to its Total Mobile Protection plans, which have now been updated to include same day repair for damaged display screens.
Previously, subscribers of the Big Red were required to avail of mobile protection within a month of the purchase date of their handset. But Verizon has decided to hold an open enrollment period from now until April 9th of this year. This should delight those users who considered getting mobile protection before but never quite gotten to actually doing it. Well, they can do so by enrolling now, with rates starting at $11 a month.
For those not familiar with Verizon Wireless’ Total Mobile Protection plans, they offer repairs or replacement for handsets that are lost, stolen, damaged, or with defects. Essentially, the plans provide insurance coverage in case you can not find your phone, or got your device damaged (cracked screens, water damaged), or when your phone malfunctions, with issues that are not usually covered by the regular manufacturer’s warranty.
Before, affected subscribers can only get a couple of claims at most every year, but now Verizon Wireless has decided to change the maximum number of claims to three. The Big Red will either repair or replace one’s missing or malfunctioning device, with deductibles ranging from $49 to $199 per phone, depending of course on what particular make or model. Verizon Wireless’ Total Mobile Protection also comes with Tech Coach, which offers unlimited technical support service either over the phone or through Verizon’s app. Moreover, next day delivery for replacement phones is also provided by the carrier’s mobile insurance plans. For those with multiple handsets, they may want to check out the mobile operator’s Multi-Device Protection offering (also included in the open enrollment period), which already comes with coverage for three to ten handsets for only $33 a month.
It bears noting though that same-day service comes with a deductible of $79 per handset. In eligible locations, Verizon will send a technician directly to the customer’s preferred address. Those who sign up from now until March 10th of this year will get a thank you token in the form of the Mophie PowerBoost Mini external battery (2,600 mAh).
