For those content with only availing of a prepaid plan instead of signing up for an unlimited data option (which may end up unused anyway), they may want to check out the latest prepaid offering from Verizon Wireless. The Big Red’s 2 gigabyte 4G LTE plan already comes with unlimited domestic voice calls and text messaging, plus unlimited text messaging from the United States to over 200 countries around the world and unlimited Always-On Data (more on this later). And at $40 a month, it appears to be a good deal for those consumers with low to average data usage requirements.
With regards to the Always-On Data, connection speeds may be throttled to 128 kbps, but users can rest assured that they will not be charged any overages for going beyond the allotted 2 gigabytes of fast data each month. As for those who find themselves not able to fully use up the 2 gigabyte data allowance, they will get to roll over any unused megabytes to the next month.
Verizon Wireless’ latest 2 gigabyte prepaid option should be a welcome addition to its already existing 5 gigabyte and 10 gigabyte prepaid offerings. For those not familiar with these two current plans, the 5 gigabyte prepaid option is priced at $50 a month with 4G LTE data, while the 10 gigabyte prepaid offering is priced at $70 a month. Of course, for those who require even more data, they can always go for the Big Red’s 4 gigabyte postpaid option, which costs $50 a month, the 8 gigabyte postpaid plan, which is priced at $70 a month, or the recently introduced unlimited fast data plan at $80 a month.
So how does Verizon Wireless’ new prepaid offering compare to the rest of the competition? Other major US wireless carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint currently sell 3 gigabytes of 4G LTE data at $40 a month. Even better at a similar price is the prepaid plan being offered by AT&T, which includes 4 gigabytes of 4G LTE data at $40 a month. It is also worth noting that Boost Mobile (the prepaid arm of Sprint) also has a 2 gigabyte plan that costs $30 a month, Cricket Wireless (AT&T’s prepaid brand) offers a 3 gigabyte plan at $35 a month, while The People’s Operator (TPO) has a 2 gigabyte offering at an even cheaper $25 price.
