New Droid smartphones are coming your way. Verizon Wireless has already sent out invitations to members of the press for a media event happening in Manhattan on October 27th of this year. In this media event, the largest wireless carrier in the United States will be introducing the latest versions of its Droid mobile devices.
The last few months have seen the mobile world get treated to various unveilings of flagship devices from several phone makers. Within a span of a couple of months, mobile users have witness the announcements of new high profile devices from familiar names such as Apple (iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus), Google (Nexus 5X from LG and Nexus 6P from Huawei), and Microsoft (Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL).
The Droid smartphones are set to join that impressive list, but it will do so amidst tough competition. During the infancy days of Android, the Droid line of smartphones were considered the face of Google’s mobile operating system. But in later years, devices from Samsung (the South Korean mobile manufacturer’s Galaxy line of smartphones) and HTC (the Taiwanese phone maker’s One series of handsets) have went on to become the new faces of the Android platform. Fortunately for Droid devices, there remains a specific percentage of the Big Red’s subscriber base that still purchases the handsets.
Newer models of Droid mobile devices are now built exclusively by Motorola. And they have built a reputation for focusing on offering high end specs and a longer lasting battery life. Some may remember that in November of last year, Verizon Wireless launched the Motorola Droid Turbo Employee Edition. As its name implies, this variant of the Motorola Droid Turbo handset was made exclusive to employees of the Big Red only.
As for the standard version of the Droid Turbo smartphone, it features a 5.2 inch ultra high definition display screen with scratch resistant and waterproof glass. Camera wise, the device comes with a 20 megapixel camera on the rear side, and a 2 megapixel camera on the front side. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip, supported by 3 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 32 gigabytes of onboard storage space, plus a 3,900 mAh battery. With regards to software and features, the Droid Turbo had Moto Voice, Moto Actions, Moto Assist, and many others.
