The biggest wireless carrier in America is debuting a new special offer for those who want to sign up for any Verizon Wireless plan, or decide to upgrade. Indeed, the Big Red is giving a free three months of subscription to HBO Now (just in time for the sixth season of Game of Thrones) to those who switch to a Verizon plan from another carrier and activate a new line of service, or to existing subscribers who opt to upgrade or get an extra line of service to their current account with a device payment plan (applies to both smartphone and tablet device activation).
Once signed up, eligible subscribers will get to enjoy three months of access to HBO Now, which typically charges $14.99 a month. When the three months is over, customers have the option of either ending their HBO Now subscription, or choose to charge the $14.99 a month subscription fee to their credit card. As for those who already have an existing subscription to HBO Now, they will get to have access to the service for three months, absolutely free of charge, starting at the moment the deal is applied to their HBO Now account.
The interesting part of this special offer from Verizon Wireless is that the mobile network service provider is letting subscribers combine the HBO Now deal with other promos, including the $650 cashback deal it launched in December of last year for new subscribers switching from other carriers and trading in their old handsets. As for those subscribers who choose to activate a new line of service on a plan of at least 12 gigabytes of data, the Big Red will give them an additional 2 gigabytes of data each month, for as long as they keep that line alive.
A free three month subscription to HBO Now should sound appealing, especially when one considers that apart from Verizon Wireless’ own free Go90 TV, music and sports streaming feature, the Big Red still does not have any unlimited and data free video streaming service. Still, those who do avail of the HBO Now deal might want to watch their data consumption in order not to incur any overages.
Game of Thrones is arguably HBO’s most in demand show right now, but that does not mean other subscribers can take full advantage of other video content, especially for those not particularly enamored with dragons, white walkers, and vile humans. HBO Now also offers other shows like Silicon Valley, True Detective, and Veep, all of which can be equally compelling (and addictive).
