One week after T-Mobile announced its newest Simply Prepaid plans, Verizon Wireless has also restructured one of its prepaid services. Specifically, the Big Red is doubling the data on its Allset $45 plan. This means that the prepaid base plan now comes with 1 gigabyte of LTE data (originally only 500 megabytes) and the usual unlimited calls, unlimited domestic text messaging, and unlimited text messaging to Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico -- all for the same monthly price of $45.
Via an additional data pack, Verizon subscribers can choose to add more data if they need to. Data options include an extra 500 megabytes for 30 days at $5; 1 gigabyte for 90 days at $10; or 3 gigabytes for 90 days at $20.
Moreover, those customers of Verizon who decide to pay for their Allset prepaid plan through AutoPay will get to have an additional 500 megabytes added to their monthly completely free of of charge. This means that they will enjoy 1.5 gigabytes of data and still pay only $45 per month.
We are only into the first month of the new year and we are already seeing two major wireless carriers competing with each other in the prepaid market.
T-Mobile's new Simply Prepaid plans start at $40 per month and already includes 1 gigabyte of LTE data plus unlimited throttled data, unlimited calls, and unlimited text messaging. But it should be noted that T-Mobile's latest prepaid plans come with a high-speed cap of 8 mbps, even for LTE speeds. This means that once T-Mobile subscribers use up their LTE allotments, they will be throttled to 3G speeds for the rest of the month.
Verizon's Allset prepaid plan, on the other hand, do not come with restrictions on data speeds. But if you go with the Big Red, you will not enjoy unlimited data, like in T-Mobile's (Simply Prepaid's data may be throttled but it still is unlimited).
Those who sign up for Verizon's Allset prepaid plans will enjoy access to the major wireless carrier's speedy 4G LTE and XLTE networks, as long as their mobile devices are compatible. Subscribers can opt to bring their own Verizon Wireless handsets to the prepaid plan, or choose from any of the carrier's selection of devices, which include the iPhone 5S, the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One (M8), and the Moto X.
