In New York City today, Verizon Wireless held a special event to unveil three new additions to its very popular DROID smartphone lineup. Launching on Verizon's 4G LTE network on August 20th 2013 are the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx and DROID Mini.
Why launch three new Motorola DROID smartphone at one time, you might ask. By launching all three smartphones at the same time, Motorola introduces a DROID smartphone for everyone - from first-time users that might like a smaller phone all the way to the power user that wants a large screen and extra battery life.
Each of these smartphone has a 24 percent faster central processing unit (CPU) and a 100 percent faster graphics processing unit (GPU) than the previous models. The Motorola X8 processor chip inside the new DROID lineup is a new 8-core design with 2 application processor cores, 4 graphics cores, a contextual computing core, and a natural language processing core. In other words, a monster fast processor with power for all your multitasking. Features like Touchless Control and DROID Zap are able to fly thanks to the slew of dedicated processor power in the new DROID Ultra, Maxx, and Mini smartphones for Verizon Wireless.
Touchless Control allows you to use your voice to make phone calls, get directions, and search without eye or hand contact on the phone. DROID Zap shares pictures instantly with other phones nearby with just a swipe.
During the presentation Jeff Dietel, Verizon's vice president of marketing, defined what each smartphone in the refreshed DROID lineup represents for Verizon Wireless:
The DROID Ultra is "the thinnest smartphone available."
The "old Maxx was 9.3mm thick and had 32 hours of battery while the new [DROID] Maxx is 8.5mm and runs for 48 hours".
The DROID Mini was simply described as "compact without compromise."
During the presentation, Verizon's expected store price for each phone was revealed: $99 for DROID Mini, $199 for DROID Ultra, and $299 for DROID Maxx with new 2-yr agreements.
