Verizon Wireless confirmed today that it will be introducing new data, voice and prepaid plans set to go into effect January 18th.
Under the new pricing structure, the nation's largest wireless carrier will be offering unlimited voice calling for $69.99 -- about a 30% reduction from its previous monthly charge of $99.99. Subscribers can also opt for a plan that includes unlimited voice and text messaging for $89.99 per month.
The carrier will also require a $9.99 per month data plan with its offering of 3G Multimedia Phones. The data plan will include a monthly data transfer allotment of 25 megabytes, replacing a $19.99 option for 75 megabytes of downloads. Smartphones will continue to require a $29.99 per month data package.
Verizon Wireless' monthly prepaid plan will cost $74.99 for unlimited voice calls, and $94.99 for unlimited voice calls and text.
The new rate plans are likely to compel rival AT&T Wireless to adopt a similar fee structure, although the changes aren't likely to have far reaching implications because unlimited voice and text subscribers only make up a small portion of the wireless market.
