Virgin Mobile, the prepaid subsidiary of major US wireless carrier Sprint, has decided to introduce new unlimited plans that start at only $30 a month, and already come with unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited 2G data. Back in September of last year, Virgin Mobile had made changes to its prepaid plans, boosting the data of its unlimited plans while retaining the pricing. But the latest announcement from the wireless carrier brings even more cheaper prices for customers.
For reference, here are the pricing and full inclusions of the new plans:
$30 a month plan -- Includes unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited 2G data, with 500 megabytes of data at high speed
$40 a month plan -- Includes unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited 2G data, with 4 gigabytes of data at high speed
$50 a month plan -- Includes unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited 2G data, with 6 gigabytes of data at high speed
For comparison, the previous prepaid plans from Virgin Mobile started at $35 a month for 1 gigabyte of fast data, with the $45 a month plan offering 3 gigabytes of data and the $55 a month plan offering 8 gigabytes of data.
For those who prefer getting more full speed data, they can elect to get a Data Pack on top of their prepaid plan. The Data Packs include 1 gigabyte of data offered at $5, and 2 gigabytes of data offered at $10. It should be noted that all plans offered by Virgin Mobile run on Sprint’s network, and do not come with any contracts. Also, Virgin Mobile offers no bring your own device (BYOD) arrangements, but does have a fair selection of new handsets that are made available for purchase, including Apple’s current iPhone 6s devices.
Apart from announcing new unlimited plans, Virgin Mobile also took the opportunity to offer its customers unlimited music streaming that will will not affect their high speed data allotments. The wireless carrier is joining forces with five music streaming service providers, namely Pandora, iHeartRadio, Slacker, 8tracks, and Milk Music in allowing mobile users to stream as much as they like without having to worry about it eating away at their data allowances. Some may find this reminiscent of T-Mobile’s Music Freedom feature, which now has more than 40 music streaming partners, including popular choices as Spotify and Google Music.
