As the release of the hotly-anticipated iPhone 6 draws near, retailers all over the United States are drastically reducing the prices of their iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C units. As reported by CNET, a Walmart spokesperson has confirmed that the retail giant is lowering the prices of their iPhone 5S to $79.00 and the iPhone 5C to just $0.97. Before the drop in prices, the iPhone 5S used to sell for $99.00 while the iPhone 5C can be bought for $29.00. The Walmart representative further stated that the price drop takes effect beginning 9 AM on Thursday, August 21. The reduced prices will apply to all colors of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C units, and can only be used with a two-year contract on AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, or US Cellular.
Retailers are no strangers to dropping prices whenever a new iPhone is about to be released by Apple. As a matter of fact, in the days leading up to the debuts of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in September of 2013, retail establishments like Best Buy, Target, and of course, Walmart slashed the prices of their iPhone 5 units. Now with rumors flying around that the latest iPhone will be launched on September 9th of this year, perhaps it's only natural for a retail giant like Walmart to do it all over again.
As for the soon-to-be-released iPhone 6, excitement is definitely brewing. And the rumors and leaks are not helping any bit in quelling the excitement. Over the past few weeks, there have been leaked images of a 4.7-inch phone and another 5.5-inch version that purportedly featured an improved camera and a reversible USB cable.
However, those who are keen to take advantage instead of the price-adjusted iPhone 5S and 5C units still have plenty of reason to smile. While they're no longer the hottest items around, they're still worth checking out, especially for those who never got a chance to own one. The iPhone 5C was first introduced back in September of last year, and since then, together with its more flashy and sturdier counterpart the iPhone 5S, they have sold 9 million units in the first three days they were available in stores.
Now, with the new iPhone version about to be released, it's perfectly understandable for retailers to create space in their shelves by finding ways to get rid of the previous iPhone version fast. Hence the price drop that's happening now. Interestingly enough, the iPhone 5S is still being sold by any Apple Store at $199.00 (on a two-year contract). So buyers definitely have more incentive to get the iPhone 5S from Walmart now. That is, if they're not lining up to get the iPhone 6 once it hits the stores in early September.
