Almost a week ago, Apple had already started sending out invitations for an event scheduled at 10 AM PT on Monday, March 21st of this year, to be held at the company’s headquarters located in the city of Cupertino in the state of California. Teasingly, the invitation features the words “Let us loop you in.”
No doubt, Apple fans are already peeing their pants in excitement, but for the benefit of those not closely following the iPhone maker’s every action, here is what you can expect at said upcoming March 21st event.
A New, Smaller iPhone. When Apple unveiled its iPhone 6 (measuring at 4.7 inches) and iPhone 6 Plus (5.5 inches) back in 2014, the company not only introduced two of the biggest selling smartphones of all time, but also ushered in a new era of iPhone devices with large display screens. More importantly, it helped Apple enjoy an edge over Samsung who essentially initially popularized the concept of phablets with the release of its Galaxy Note smartphones. But fast forwarding to 2016, Apple is now dealing with iPhone fatigue, and it has even seen its once untouchable sales figures undergo a slump. So now, Apple is preparing to announce a smaller iPhone (unofficially called the iPhone SE), which should be positioned as a more powerful replacement for the iPhone 5s. Possessing processing prowess as formidable as the company’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s devices, the iPhone SE will likely come with support for Apple Pay, but probably not for 3D Touch (present in the current flagship devices, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus). Nobody has an idea about the iPhone SE’s pricing yet, but industry watchers expect it to be much cheaper than recent iPhone offerings.
A New iPad Model. In autumn of last year, Apple launched its gargantuan iPad Pro (measuring at 12.9 inches) and its sleek iPad Mini 4 (7.9 inches). This March, the company will likely unveil a follow up to its iPad Air 2. This new tablet offering should feature Smart Connector technology that provides support for Apple’s own keyboard cover and its Apple Pencil. However, the more pressing concern may be -- will people care? It is no secret that iPad sales have been steadily declining in the last couple of years. Sure, iPad Pro was cool and all, but it has never really gained solid traction in terms of sales in the last four months.
Apple Watch Updates. We will likely not see a new Apple Watch model. But almost certainly, Apple will be introducing new developments on Apple Watch bands, including new colors and materials. Apple may also reveal new software updates for watchOS, plus new features on existing Apple Watch apps.
