During an event held in the city of New Delhi in India, Xiaomi introduced its newest smartphone offering, the Mi 4i. Aside from being the first handset that the Chinese phone maker designed outside of its home country, this device is also marks the first time a Xiaomi smartphone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
The Mi 4i is expected to debut in the emerging Indian market (the handset is customized for Indian consumers), and will be made available for about $205 starting on April 30th this year. Although the device is introduced first for Indian users, Xiaomi will be offering the device later on in other markets where the China-based mobile manufacturer has a strong presence in terms of smartphone sales.
As far as specifications go, the Mi 4i looks to impress. It comes with a 5 inch display screen that features 1,080 pixel resolution. Furthermore, its 13 megapixel camera on the rear side (the same camera present in another of Xiaomi's phablets, the Mi Note device) and 5 megapixel camera on the front side should delight snap happy users.
Hugo Barra, the vice president of global at Xiaomi who officially announced the device, stated that the Mi 4i comes with a new "beautify" feature, which automatically incorporates some subtle retouches to selfies taken by users. So if you are worried about your wrinkles when taking a selfie, this feature can help in cleaning up the crow's feet just a bit.
With the Mi 4i, the Chinese phone maker seems to be focusing on delivering the goods in terms of image capturing. The new device comes with a new technology called "Sunlight Display," which boosts the visibility of pictures displayed on the phone's screen during extremely bright, sun-lit conditions. Moreover, the HDR feature of the handset has been incorporated with gamma and contrast tuning, color correction, and even low-light de-noising.
Hardware specs-wise, the Mi 4i comes equipped with a second generation Snapdragon 615 processor manufactured by Qualcomm. This means that the chip set features an eight core 64 bit processor. On top of that, it is supported with 2 gigabytes of random access memory and 16 gigabytes of internal storage. Also, the handset has dual SIM capabilities, and even includes support for 4G in both SIM slots.
Battery-wise, the Mi 4i boasts a 3,129 mAh battery with a quick charge feature that allows the device to charge to 40 percent in an hour. To get to full charge, the device can power up within three hours.
When it launches, the Xiaomi Mi 4i smartphone will be available in five color choices.
