It was only about a couple of weeks ago when Apple got to roll out an iOS update that came with a fix for ChaiOS, a bug that causes the iMessage app on iOS powered mobile devices to crash and cause locking and restarting issues. This week, the tech giant finds itself dealing with yet another iMessage bug, and this time around, this latest issue may be far more damaging.
This newly discovered iOS bug (first spotted and reported by Mobile World) basically causes apps on Apple’s iOS mobile operating system to crash if a specific Indian symbol, displayed as a Telugu character, is shown. And not only does the bug shut down iOS apps, it also makes them inaccessible to users. A far worse scenario is when the character shows up as a notification -- when this happens, the software that is responsible for managing the home screen shuts down.
According to reports, the Apple devices that are affected are those that are powered by iOS 11.2.5. And as mentioned earlier in this post, the scope of the damage is more broad, simple because any mobile app that can display characters are affected, including widely used services such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and of course, Messages. Reports indicate that users will likely have to uninstall and then re-install the app in order to regain access to it. Not only does this latest bug cause problems for iPhones and iPads, but also for Mac computers and even Apple Watch units.
Still, iOS mobile users might be relieved to know that Apple is already doing something about it. As a matter of fact, the tech giant has already issued a statement that a fix should be made available soon. This patch will reportedly be rolled out sooner than the expected iOS 11.3 update (iOS 11.3 will be arriving some time in spring of this year).
Bugs come in all shapes and sizes, and even Apple is not exempted from having to deal with them, despite its tried and tested technological wizardry. To the tech giant’s credit, it has always been fast and furious when it comes to issuing patches for persky bugs. Just last month when the ChaiOS bug appeared, the company did good in deploying a fix relatively quickly. And while it is true that the latest bug is more serious, Apple should be able to provide a patch in no time. So for all affected iOS mobile users out there, just hang in there.
