Two of LG’s most recent smartphone offerings -- the G7 ThinQ and the V35 ThinQ phablets -- are now available for preorder from Project Fi, Google’s wireless service. The LG G7 ThinQ is offered at a price of $749, or $31.21 each month for a period of a couple of years. The LG V35 ThinQ on the other hand can be had for $899, or $37.46 every month for 24 months. Those who decide to preorder any one of the devices, however, will get to enjoy a discount of a hundred bucks in Project Fi credit.
While it is true that it has been more than three years since Google had launched its Project Fi brand, one could argue that the wireless service could use some new additions to its rather limited options for smartphone devices. When Project Fi had started back in 2015, the only handsets compatible with its network was Google’s own Pixel smartphones and Nexus devices.
To Project Fi’s credit, it has been steadily growing its list of smartphones -- back in September of last year, the mobile operator had announced that it was welcoming Motorola’s Moto X4 as the first ever non-Google branded handset to work on Project Fi’s network. And then three weeks ago, it was revealed that Project Fi was also adding another Motorola smartphone -- the Moto G6 -- to its lineup, as well as LG’s G7 ThinQ and V35 ThinQ devices.
As for the two recently added LG handsets, they mark the first time that LG devices have been added to Project Fi’s range of smartphone options, that is when not counting 2015’s Nexus 5X, a Google Nexus branded handset that was manufactured by LG. The G7 ThinQ phablet was first unveiled by LG more than a month ago, and it builds on some of the artificial intelligence driven features of the previous ThinQ offering -- the V30S ThinQ. Thus, the G7 ThinQ rocks an AI Cam, which offers 19 shooting modes, and its ultra bright camera gets a massive boost from an AI algorithm that adjusts the settings automatically when shooting pictures in low light environments.
Not surprisingly, the V35 ThinQ similarly offers its own AI-centric specifications and features -- the AI Cam gets a starring role again, and partners seamlessly with Google Lens. As far as hardware specs are concerned, the phablet is equipped with a 6 inch QHD+ organic light emitting diode (OLED) display screen that comes with full support for enhanced graphics quality in films, TV programs, and mobile games. Inside, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip provides some processing might, further assisted by 6 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) as well as 64 gigabytes of built in storage.
