Looking for an Android powered smartphone device that is priced less than two hundred bucks? Well, you might be delighted to know that HMD Global’s Nokia 3.1 can now preordered from Amazon for a price of only $159.
Some may remember that a couple of weeks ago, HMD Global had formally unveiled a trio of new Android running Nokia branded handsets -- namely the Nokia 5.1, the Nokia 3.1, and the Nokia 2.1. Basically these devices are named like that simply because they are all upgrades to the Nokia 5, the Nokia 3, and the Nokia 2 smartphones that were introduced last year.
These three devices are being positioned by Nokia as budget friendly phones that come with modest but interesting features. As for the Nokia 3.1, it offers a 5.2 inch display, with an 18 to 9 aspect ratio. This screen is complemented with a 13 megapixel main camera (f/2 aperture, with LED flash) on the rear side, as well as an 8 megapixel selfie shooter (f/2 aperture) on the front side. Note that the rear 13 megapixel lens betters the predecessor’s 8 megapixel main camera.
As mentioned earlier, the hardware specifications may not be that mind blowing, but the Nokia 3.1’s eight core MediaTek 6750 chip set is an improvement over the Nokia 3’s quad core MediaTek 6737 processor. Also, the newer chip promises a 50 percent faster processing speed compared to last year’s version. That hardware is then supported by at least 2 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 16 gigabytes of built in storage. Other notable features include a 2,990 mAh battery and Google’s Android Oreo (Go Edition) -- or Android Go, for short -- which is a more basic and more importantly, lighter iteration of Android Oreo, intended for affordable devices like the Nokia 3.1.
Lastly, the Nokia 3.1 comes in color options of black/chrome, white/iron, and blue/copper. While it is true that interested parties can preorder the smartphone as early as now, the device will not officially hit the United States mobile market until July 2nd. Want to browse other handsets? One can say that HMD Global is on a roll when it comes to releasing its new generation of Nokia smartphone devices. Ever since it had won the rights to license the Nokia brand name back in December of 2016, it has slowly but surely managed to introduce some interesting budget friendly choices. And recently, it has put itself in a good position to make another run by scoring an additional $100 million in funding.
