Verizon Wireless is introducing a brand new option that targets mobile users with about average data requirements. Specifically, the newest plan from the Big Red allows customers to enjoy 5 gigabytes of high speed data, as well as unlimited domestic voice calls and text messaging, all at a price of $55 a month (for accounts with Auto Pay).
Among mobile users based in the United States, perhaps the most popular smartphones of Samsung are those that belong to the company’s Galaxy S lineup of devices. But as expected of the world’s biggest seller of smartphone devices, the South Korean phone maker has plenty more other series of handsets. Americans may have heard of the Galaxy A range or the Galaxy J range, but Samsung actually has other less well known brands.
A trio of characters contained in a simple text message -- that is all it takes to deactivate (thankfully temporarily) an iPhone unit. This was revealed as much by an online hacker recently (via the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro). So which characters exactly will cause pandemonium on Apple’s smartphones? They include a white flag emoji, a “0” and a rainbow emoji.
Next month, the top two football teams in the United States will be competing against each other at the NRG Stadium in the city of Houston in Texas for this year’s Super Bowl. Such a massive sports event will be expected to draw crowds from across the country, with every fan sure to be talking about it through voice calls, text messaging, and data (via social media).
According to a report published by Reuters, Samsung will be releasing the full results of its investigation into what caused its Galaxy Note 7 device to catch fire or even explode this coming January 23rd. The Reuters news report also stated that the phablet’s overheating problems are likely tied to battery issues, and not to any hardware or software aspect.
This piece of news may not be welcome for those owning the original iPhone or the BlackBerry Pearl. AT&T has confirmed that it has indeed discontinued its 2G services as of January 1st of this year. To its credit, the second biggest wireless carrier in the United States did promise more than four years ago that it would do so. Well now, it has been made official.
Sprint is starting the new year by offering to give $200 to anybody who is switching to an unlimited plan. Specifically, customers who switch from a competitor wireless carrier to Sprint will be given a $200 prepaid card for each new unlimited line of service they add to their plan. This special offer is made available to both existing and new subscribers, as long as they switch at least a single line of service from a rival network. The deal runs through February 2nd.
In an effort to make navigation much easier for its users, Snapchat has just launched a universal search bar in its interface. This new universal search bar is easily (and always) accessible at the top section of the mobile app, and people can easily make use of it when searching for friends, groups, Discover publishers, and Our Stories. This latest feature from the messaging giant is now currently being deployed to select Android mobile devices, and it should start arriving at iOS mobile devices as well any day now.
For those worried about the One series of smartphone devices biting the dust now that HTC has unveiled its new U lineup of handsets, rest assured that the Taiwanese phone maker has promised not to discontinue releasing One branded devices. But just to be clear about all of this -- the U series is now the new flagship devices from now on.
The biggest seller of smartphone devices in the whole world recently launch a couple of different ads that showcase its brand new AMOLED display screens (view them here and here). Sure, new AMOLED displays are something to look forward to, but even more exciting is the mysterious handset that appears in the two separate ads.
