User interface: The Samsung Fascinate is running Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface while the Evo 4G is running HTC’s Sense user interface. TouchWiz and Sense differ in a number of ways, including the homescreen widgets available, appearance and some Android enhancements characteristic of each respective interface. Some might argue that HTC's Sense user interface is more advanced and refined than Samsung's TouchWiz interface. Overall, however, the core functionality of Android remains the same on both devices, and the choice between the two interfaces is undoubtedly one of personal preference. It is also worth noting that the Evo is powered by Android 2.2, while the Fascinate is running Android 2.1. The Fascinate is expected to be upgradeable to 2.2 Froyo in the coming months.
4G: The HTC Evo 4G is the first phone on a U.S. network to boast 4G connectivity, making it capable of connecting to Sprint's WiMax network (where available) and enabling the device to reach peak download speeds of over 10 Mbps and peak upload speeds of 1 Mbps. In areas without 4G connectivity, the Evo will still operate on Sprint's 3G network. The Fascinate is limited to Sprint's 3G network.
HDMI out: With an HDMI cable (sold separately), the HTC Evo 4G is capable of outputting HD video to a TV or projector. The Evo can display anything on the phone's display, including video, when connected to a compatible TV or projector. Although the Samsung Fascinate does offer video out via a 3.5mm headphone out cable (also sold separately), it does not provide HD-out capabilities.
Display: The Evo 4G has a huge and gorgeous 4.3-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels. Because of its large display, the Evo is an ideal mobile device for movie-watching and web browsing (and also touts an on-board 'kick stand' for easy table-top viewing). Although it is slightly smaller, the Fasincate also has a large 4-inch display. The Fascinate offers a vibrant Super AMOLED display that is arguably brighter than that of the Evo's with richer colors.
Camera: The HTC Evo 4G has an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and a bright dual LED flash. The Fascinate has a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and an LED flash. Certainly, megapixels are not the measure of a camera's quality, although the EVO is capable of capturing higher resolution photos. Both devices are capable of recording HD-quality video at 720P.
Video chat: The Evo 4G is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera that makes the device capable of mobile video chat. The T-Mobile G2 lacks a front-facing camera.
Battery life: The Fascinate's Super AMOLED display and Hummingbird processor are likely to assist the device in achieving longer talk and standby times as compared to the HTC Evo 4G.
Storage space: Right out of the box, the Samsung Fascinate offers 18GB of total storage space thanks to a pre-installed 16GB microSD card and 2GB of on-board storage space. The HTC Evo 4G comes pre-installed with an 8GB microSD card. Accordingly, the Fascinate offers 10GB more storage space than the Evo, but both devices support up to a 32 GB microSD card.
