Although the Samsung Memoir hit U.S. markets several months ago, we wanted to show this impressive 8-megapixel camera phone a little Wirefly Learn love. The Memoir is the first camera phone native to the States to exceed 5-megapixels. That accolade alone would make the Memoir worth taking a serious look at, but the Memoir also offers a solid number of high-end features that make it a great phone in addition to a full-blown camera.
The Memoir is two-faced. The front of the phone looks like a standard touch screen device. There's a nicely sized crisp and bright touch screen, send, end and back key. If you first see the device from the back first, however, you may be shocked to know that you are actually looking at a cell phone. With a faux leather grip, protruding lens, and flash, the Memoir looks like a pocketable point-and-shoot camera.
The camera offers a decently bright Xenon flash, 16x digital zoom, auto-focus and a comprehensive set of settings, modes, and options. You can also easily upload photos to share on Flickr, Kodak Gallery, Snapfish, or Photobucket, or store photos on up to a 16GB microSD card. The Memoir can also capture up to an hour of fairly impressive video.
The Memoir features Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. TouchWiz provides a series of customizable widgets that can be dragged-and-dropped anywhere on the home screen. Unfortunately, the Samsung Memoir is not equipped with WiFi, although it does support T-Mobile's 3G network.
