Resembling what might well have resulted from an unbridled night of passion shared by the Samsung Mythic and the Samsung Solstice, the Samsung Sunburst is another entrant into Samsung's lineup of touchscreen TouchWiz-running feature phones for AT&T's network.
The Sunburst's crisp 3-inch touchscreen was among the more responsive resistive touch (some pressure must be applied) devices we've used, making the typing experience using the virtual QWERTY keyboard rival that of other higher-end feature phones. Samsung’s TouchWiz interface offers the usual set of drag-and-droppable widgets, along with three customizable widget-hungry home screens.
While the Sunburst has somewhat of more of a “plasticky” feel than some of its counterparts, the slim device has an attractive, if unique face, surrounded by a chrome bezel. Unfortunately, the Sunburst is not equipped with a standard size 3.5mm headphone jack, but does support stereo Bluetooth for wireless listening. The phone can support up to a 16GB microSD card, though does not come with a microSD card preinstalled.
The Sunburst offers a capable web browser, only hindered by its inability to connect to AT&T’s hi-speed 3G network. Instead, the browser is limited to EDGE connectivity. Despite its lack of 3G, the Sunburst still offered fairly quick browsing speeds, and we able to load up mobile content (e.g. CNN’s mobile edition) in just a few seconds.
