Reston, VA – November 29, 2010 – The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has some great features, such as a four-inch display, 1 GHz processor and 8.1-megapixel camera. However, it's been stuck with last-year's operating system: Android 1.6.
Sony Ericsson recently announced an upgrade to Android 2.1 (Eclair) for the Xperia X10, rolling it out at different dates depending on the "SI number" on the back of the phone. Compared to Android 1.6, the newer operating system should be faster, more stable and support more applications – other benefits include 720p HD video recording and up to five home screens. These updates to the Xperia X10 are also valid for the X10 Mini and the X8, the latter of which was not sold in the U.S.
The SI number consists of two four-digit groups separated by a hyphen - here's an example: 1232-4480. The number can be found on the label on the back of the phone.
Sony Ericsson is rolling out different groups of SI numbers at an increasing rate, so check the list to see if your phone can now be upgraded. The list is quite long, so be sure to scroll down all the way.
