User Interface: The HTC Evo 4G is running HTC 's versatile Sense user interface while the T-Mobile G2 is running a stock version of the Google Experience. HTC Sense differs from stock Android in a number of ways, including the homescreen widgets available, appearance and some Android enhancements characteristic of Sense including the ability to easily change widgets and home screen layout depending on what you're doing. Overall, however, the core functionality of Android remains the same on both devices, and the choice between the two interfaces is one of personal preference.
Power: The Evo 4G is equipped with an ultra-fast fast 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM. The G2 by HTC has a next-generation processor that clocks in at 800 MHz,as well as an equivalent 512MB of RAM.
Display: The HTC Evo 4G is equipped with a huge and gorgeous 4.3-inch touch sensitive 480×800 pixel display. The screen real estate makes the Evo 4G an ideal entertainment device — perfect for watching movies, browsing the web and even reading eBooks (and the device touts a 'kick stand' for easy viewing). The G2 also has an impressive and sizable 3.7-inch touch-sensitive display with the same resolution as the Evo 4G, of course meaning that the G2 has more pixels per square inch than its counterpart. Because of the Evo's larger display, the phone is also significantly taller and wider than the G2, and may be a larger overall device than some users are accustomed to.
Network speed: The T-Mobile G2 offers connectivity to T-Mobile's next generation HSPA+ network, allowing the device to reach super-fast download speeds approaching or exceeding 4G speeds (3 - 6 mbps average). In addition to 3G connectivity, the HTC Evo 4G boasts connectivity to Sprint's 4G network. There are any number of factors that will affect download and upload performance on each device, and determining a clear winner in speed is a difficult proposition.
Camera: The T-Mobile G2 is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. The HTC Evo 4G touts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and an LED flash, making it capable of capturing higher resolution photos than the T-Mobile G2. It's important to note, however, that megapixels are not the measure of a camera's quality. Both devices are capable of capturing video in HD-quality (720P).
Video chat: The Evo 4G is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera that makes the device capable of mobile video chat. The T-Mobile G2 lacks a front-facing camera.
Keyboard: The HTC Evo 4G has a great virtual (on-screen) QWERTY keyboard, but lacks a physical keyboard. The T-Mobile G2, however, offers a fantastic physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard as well a virtual keyboard. Users preferring a physical QWERTY keyboard will likely favor the G2 over the Evo 4G.
HDMI out: With an HDMI cable (sold separately), the HTC Evo 4G is capable of outputting HD video to a TV or projector. The Evo can display anything on the phone’s display, including video, when connected to a compatible TV or projector. Although the Samsung Fascinate does offer video out via a 3.5mm headphone out cable (also sold separately), it does not provide HD-out capabilities.
Storage space: Right out of the box, the T-Mobile G2 by HTC will have 4GB of on-board storage space, as well as a pre-installed 8GB microSD card -- for a total of 12GB of available storage space. The HTC Evo 4G comes pre-installed with an 8GB microSD card. Accordingly, the G2 offers 4GB more storage space than the Evo, but both devices support up to a 32 GB microSD card.
