According to SINTEF, a research firm based in Norway, it seems that the Grindr mobile app is sharing the HIV status of its users to a number of third party companies. The dating app allows its users the option of having their HIV status displayed on their profiles, and apparently this piece of information has been included in packets transmitted to Apptimize and Localytics, without the knowledge and presumably, the consent of Grindr users.
Under Armour has revealed this week that a data breach that happened in late February had affected around 150 million users of the MyFitnessPal mobile app. For those not familiar with MyFitnessPal, it is a food and nutrition app owned by Under Armour. Although the data breach had taken place a few weeks ago, it was only this week that MyFitnessPal had known of the incident.
As pointed out by Under Armour, no Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, or any other government issued ID information were compromised by the data breach. The fitness wear giant also clarified that no payment card information was also stolen.
Earlier this week, OnePlus had chosen to shut down all credit card payments on its official website, after several customers have reported noticing unusual or unexplained activity on their credit card account after making a purchase from the Chinese phone maker’s online store. At that time, the company said the decision was a precautionary measure while they were trying to look into the issue.
The personal information of 15 million subscribers of T-Mobile were compromised by a group of hackers who directed their attack on the specific company that processes the US wireless carrier’s credit checks. That company is Experian, and it stated via a press release that it detected a data breach in which customers’ personal data were stolen from September 1st of 2013 to September 16th of this year. The information captured by hackers include names, birth dates, addresses, and Social Security and driver’s license numbers.
