We already know that three days from now, Samsung’s newest flagship device offering, the Galaxy S9, will officially make its first appearance, just in time for this year’s Mobile World Congress, the annual mobile tech show that is set to kick off on February 26th and last until March 1st in the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain. But considering that the smartphone is yet to be formally announced, nobody knows just yet when it will hit store shelves everywhere.
Finally, the newest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system is landing on two of Samsung’s latest flagship devices. As reported by SamMobile, Android Oreo is now being rolled out to Galaxy S8 units, and as a matter of fact, owners of the model are now installing the Android version in the German mobile market.
It might be safe to say that Samsung had a pretty good 2017. The release of its flagship devices -- the Galaxy S8 models and the Galaxy Note 8 -- saw the world’s biggest vendor of smartphones finally move on from the Galaxy Note 7 mess it had to endure during the previous year. And even if the Galaxy Note 7 recall did not happen, the South Korean tech giant’s newest additions to its Galaxy lineup of handsets are still awesome products in their own right, as any owner can surely attest.
More than a month ago, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Active officially launched through AT&T. At that time, the device was made exclusively available only on the second biggest wireless carrier in America, but there were hints that the device was going to pushed by other mobile operators and retailers.
Samsung has recently announced that its Bixby digital assistant has now expanded in more than 200 countries across the globe. For those still not familiar with the voice controlled feature, Bixby is basically the South Korean tech giant’s answer to Apple’s Siri or Google’s Assistant.
Samsung’s current flagship offering, the Galaxy S8, is the top selling Android powered mobile device in the world during the second quarter of this year, at least according to information recently offered by Strategy Analytics. Apple’s iPhone, however, remains the handset to beat in the entire smartphone industry.
It is official -- Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Active will be formally launching this coming Friday, August 11th, and those interested in purchasing the device can now pre-order it from AT&T. The tougher version of the South Korean phone maker’s best selling Galaxy S8 flagship offerings will be made available in a couple of color options -- namely titanium gold and meteor gray.
Without meaning to, AT&T may have inadvertently confirmed the Galaxy S8 Active smartphone, despite the fact that Samsung is yet to formally unveil the device. For those not familiar with the South Korean phone maker’s Active series of handsets, they are basically special editions of the company’s flagship offerings (particularly the Galaxy S lineup of smartphones) that are generally more rugged and tough.
When it comes to virtual reality (VR) headsets for its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus devices, Samsung itself already has a pretty decent offering with its Gear VR, even more so when taking into account the hordes of mobile apps and Oculus, as well as a new controller, that are compatible with the headset.
