The biggest seller of smartphone devices in the whole world recently launch a couple of different ads that showcase its brand new AMOLED display screens (view them here and here). Sure, new AMOLED displays are something to look forward to, but even more exciting is the mysterious handset that appears in the two separate ads.
In light of what has happened to its latest flagship device, the Galaxy Note 7 phablet, Samsung simply can not afford its upcoming flagship offering, next year’s Galaxy S8, to not be a blockbuster hit.
The year 2016 saw mobile giants such as Apple and Motorola decide on doing away with the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack in their respective high profile smartphone releases. Is the world’s biggest seller of smartphones also doing the same in the near future?
Its fiercest rival has already done it, so Samsung might as well give it a shot. The South Korean phone maker’s upcoming flagship device for next year is the highly awaited Galaxy S8, and according to a report published by Korean news website The Investor, the device could feature a pressure sensitive display screen, the same way that Apple’s recent iPhone models have 3D Touch technology.
Samsung has announced that it has plans of incorporating an artificial intelligence (AI) digital assistant to the Galaxy S8, its flagship device for next year. If the South Korean phone maker makes good in its plans a few months from now, then it would be joining rival tech giants such as Apple and Google in making full use of AI features in their respective smartphone offerings.
It appears that Samsung is looking to pour another billion dollars or so into strengthening the production of processors, especially in its semiconductor facility located in the city of Austin in Texas.
According to the newest leak (courtesy of SamMobile), Samsung’s upcoming flagship device for 2017, the Galaxy S8, is said to sport a 4K display screen as well as an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant developed by Viv, the startup that Samsung had acquired about a week ago.
Samsung’s Galaxy S8 could hit store shelves everywhere as early as February 26th of next year, if the latest rumors are to be believed. Based on past release dates of the South Korean mobile giant’s flagship devices, a February launch schedule is not that much of a surprise.
Considering that it has only been four months since Samsung introduced its Galaxy S7 flagship, we may not see its follow up, the Galaxy S8, until next year, probably in the first quarter of 2017 (likely in the month of February). Still, it is never too early for speculation, and a pair of rumors are already circulating in the Interwebs regarding the much anticipated Android powered handset.
