The research firm stated that the volume of shipments of smartwatch devices and fitness trackers have reached 33.9 million units during the final quarter of last year, which is not only a new all time high but also signifies a growth of 16.9 percent year over year.
Among today’s wearable devices, fitness trackers are still the undisputed best sellers, but smartwatch devices are beginning to catch on. According to market research firm NPD, activity trackers are still more widely used compared to smartwatches across most categories related to fitness, especially among owners of wearable devices who work out.
