Samsung has just recently launched iOS mobile apps for its Gear S3, Gear S2, and Gear Fit2 smartwatches, effectively bringing iOS compatibility to its wearable devices. This means that owners of these gadgets can now pair their iPhone device (that is, if they have one) with any one of these Samsung smartwatches.
Samsung has just announced that its latest wearable device offering, the Gear S3, will be hitting store shelves everywhere this coming November 18th. Just to be clear, both the LTE connected and Bluetooth only versions will be launching on that date. For those who want to purchase the smartwatch in advance, they can start preordering on November 6th. As indicated in the press release from the South Korean tech giant, the Gear S3 will be made available in retail outlets such as Best Buy, Amazon, Macy’s, and Samsung’s own online store, as well as other participating mobile operator partners.
Samsung is sometimes credited for popularizing the use of phablets (smartphones with large display screens), and now the South Korean tech giant appears to be looking to make big smartwatches popular, too. Recently this week, the company formally introduced the Gear S3, its latest addition to its Gear S lineup of smartwatch devices.
Makers of Android powered devices are often criticized for taking so long to update their products with the latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system. The biggest phone maker of them all, Samsung, is no exception to this. But the South Korean mobile giant is working to change all that by announcing that its latest phablet, the Galaxy Note 7, will get Android 7.0 Nougat before the end of this year.
It appears that 2015 was both a good year and a bad year for Fitbit. The company finished last year as (still) the king of the wearables industry, but it saw its market share continue to decrease. According to market research firm IDC, the shipment volume of Fitbit’s widely popular activity tracker devices increased to 21 million units in 2015, a significant improvement compared to the 11 million units it registered the year before.
One week ago, Samsung held a major conference in New York City, officially announcing its two newest phablets -- the Galaxy Note 5 and the curvy Galaxy S6 Edge+. During this event, the South Korean mobile giant also managed to tease its new upcoming wearable device, the Samsung Gear S2. To the delightful surprise of everyone, the newest smartwatch appeared to be a major upgrade over its predecessor, the Samsung Gear S, at least in looks.
As indicated in a report published by Reuters, Samsung definitely has plans to bring Tizen, the mobile operating system it created and developed, to more mobile devices before the end of 2015.
Citing sources claiming to have direct knowledge of the South Korean phone maker's plans, Reuters reported that Tizen will be arriving in several new mobile devices, even spanning across various smartphone price ranges, from entry level to midrange to premium.
Just as promised by Samsung, its Gear S smartwatch is finally made available for American customers. As a matter of fact, all four major wireless carriers in the United States are offering Samsung's wearable device. Samsung had already launched several Gear smartwatches that either run on Android Wear by Google or Tizen. But out of those releases, the Gear S looks to be the one that sells the most on account of its features and generous display screen size. A couple of months ago, the South Korean mobile manufacturer had stated that the wearable device will be offered by AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless by fall of this year. However, the company did not announce any launch date -- that is, until just over a week ago when it revealed that the Gear S will be available for purchase starting November 7th of this year.
