According to a report recently published by Taiwan based news website Digitimes, this year’s upcoming iPhone 8 could be equipped with a full glass front and rear side flanking a center frame made of metal. This latest rumor speculates that Foxconn and Jabil, both manufacturing partners of Apple, are currently busy with the production of the iPhone 8’s body, which reportedly requires a couple of reinforced glass panels for the front side and the rear side, respectively. Holding together the twin glass panes is a frame fashioned from stainless steel.
Corning’s specialty is manufacturing the glass material used in most of today’s smartphones and tablet devices. Many may be familiar with the American company’s trademark product, Gorilla Glass, which should be expected, considering that every major smartphone release in recent times frequently name check this glass component.
As reported by the Nikkei Asian Review, a head official of one of Apple’s major manufacturing suppliers is predicting that a new iPhone coming out in the near future will come with glass casings. Indeed, it was during a shareholder meeting held just this week that Allen Horng, the chief executive officer of Catcher Technology made his prediction.
