AT&T is the latest to join the digital assistant club. The second biggest wireless carrier in the United States has announced that is indeed working on a voice assistant that functions similarly to Siri and other popular digital assistant services out there. However, AT&T is doing it by way of a mobile app to subscribers of its Digital Life service. The wireless carrier is planning to roll out the mobile app within six months.
To open Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant, normally one only needs to speak the words “Hey Cortana” and the mobile app would just launch. But the version of this feature that runs on the Android mobile operating system in the United States apparently can no longer be launched with that specific voice prompt.
According to a report by Reuters, Microsoft's Cortana will be coming to both Android and iOS platforms after Windows 10 rolls out a new and improved version of the virtual assistant.
This updated Cortana is expected to be deployed as a standalone app, which will be made available in Google Play as well as in Apple's App Store. Plus, it will work the same way on Android and iOS as it already does on Windows.
