AT&T will reportedly soon introduce very generous discounts on a number of old iPhone models via its $45 per month prepaid plan. The talk is that the number two wireless service provider in the United States will be offering the 32 gigabyte edition of Apple’s iPhone 6s at just $344.99 and the 32 gigabyte iPhone 6s Plus for only $444.99.
Apple has decided to come clean with it -- it really is slowing down the processing performance of older iPhones (as previously suspected by Redditors and Geekbench), but the tech giant is doing it to prevent more (and potentially worse) battery problems down the road. In an official statement made available to TechCrunch, the company admitted that it had rolled out a software patch a year ago that causes old iPhone units to operate more slowly.
According to a recent blog post on Geekbench’s official website, iPhone devices do exhibit some decrease in performance over time, and it is mainly due to their battery getting older. John Poole, the president and founder of Primate Labs (the firm who developed the Geekbench processor benchmarking software), explained that as the batteries age and show reduced power capacity, the processors on iPhones are also expected to slow down. We tend to believe that our iPhones will always be capable of fast processing, even after many years of use.
This might be good news for those who currently own an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s -- the biggest wireless carrier in America has a new limited time promotional deal that promises to give two hundred bucks for specific iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s owners who decide to port their phone numbers to the Big Red’s network. Strictly speaking, the special offer is open to all customers who possess any iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, or iPhone 6s Plus in all memory size configurations.
Yikes. Apple has disclosed that there is a defect in the batteries of certain iPhone 6s units that causes them to shut down all of a sudden. According to the tech giant, the likely affected devices are those iPhone 6s units manufactured between September and October of last year. So for those who are currently owners of last year’s iPhone release, they might need to have their iPhone 6s checked, regardless if it shut downs randomly or not. What they need to do is simply visit the nearest Apple outlet or authorized service provider and have their handset’s serial number examined.
The fourth biggest wireless carrier in America has decided to introduce a new special offer involving one of Apple’s flagship devices last year -- the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s may no longer be the most current iPhone offering (due to the release of this year’s iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus), but by any measure, it is still a pretty impressive smartphone. Moreover, it still does look like the newest iPhone model, so this new deal from Sprint should still attract customers.
The third biggest wireless carrier in America has debuted a new limited time only trade in offer for a select number of Apple mobile devices. In T-Mobile’s new offer, iOS mobile users can opt to trade in an older iPhone unit, and then enjoy a generous discount on any one of Apple’s current flagship devices, the iPhone 6s or the iPhone 6s Plus. Note that iPhone models before the iPhone 5 are not eligible for this trade in offer.
As reported by Droid Life, the biggest wireless carrier in America is letting customers make full use of a promo code at checkout in order to enjoy discounts of $300 on a number of high profile smartphones.
AT&T has launched a new promotional deal in select states across the US that will give customers of the wireless carrier’s DirecTV service a chance to get a free iPhone 6s unit and enjoy a 50 percent discount on up to five additional iPhone 6s devices. This special offer is made available until the end of June only.
