The latest version of Apple’s iOS mobile operating system -- iOS 10 -- has now been officially announced by the iPhone maker during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held in the city of San Francisco in California.
To date, the biggest wireless carrier in all of America does not support Apple’s Wi-Fi calling technology, which lets mobile users make and take phone calls via Wi-Fi connections on other iCloud connected handsets such as iPad tablets and Apple Watch devices.
Apple recently deployed a software update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices this week. This latest software release should update iOS devices to iOS version 9.2, and comes with enhancements to Apple Music and Apple News, as well as several fixes for various bugs. According to the App Store Distribution web page, iOS 9, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, is now on 66 percent of all iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices in the world, as of November 2nd of this year. 66 percent is certainly welcome news for Apple, and represents an improvement over the 61 percent that iOS 9 managed as of October 19th of this year.
Only about a week after Pangu, a Chinese hacking team, released the first public jailbreak for iOS 9, Apple has managed to shut down a couple of the exploits taken advantage by the China based hackers.
After almost three years, Apple’s iPod Touch finally gets upgraded. The newly enhanced iPod Touch now finds itself with certain features found in Apple’s flagship device, the iPhone 6. For instance, the improved iPod Touch now comes with an 8 megapixel camera, which is a significant upgrade on the previous model’s 5 megapixel camera.
Fresh from launching iOS 8.4, the newest iteration of its iOS 8 mobile operating system, Apple is also releasing a number of user guides that should help customers familiarize with every facet of the latest version of the system.
You can access songs from any screen on your iOS mobile device through the use of Apple's Control Center. However, you will only be limited to using playback controls. When iOS 8 launched with extensions back in September of last year, various app developers have found new ways of exploiting the latest iOS version's added functionality.
True to its word, Apple has made the iOS 8.1 update available to owners of iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices. The official release of the latest iOS 8 update also marks the simultaneous launch of Apple Pay, the tech giant's new mobile payment system. Through a combination of near-field communications (NFC) and Apple's own Touch ID technology, Apple Pay can facilitate instantaneous payment transactions at wireless point-of-sale (POS) terminals at selected stores and establishments in the United States. How the system works is simple enough -- credit card data is stored in the iPhone's Passbook app, but is kept secure through encryption and the generation of a unique security code and a one-time transaction number, and then further authenticated by the iPhone user himself via his device's Touch ID fingerprint reader. Apple's mobile payment system is expected to support three major credit card companies, namely MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. Retailers and familiar establishments like McDonald's, Walgreens, and Macy's, among many others, have already confirmed that they will be supporting Apple Pay transactions in their stores. A number of banking institutions have also stated that they will honor Apple Pay transactions as well. Aside from using Apple Pay to buy goods in actual stores, users can also take advantage of the mobile payment system in paying for goods in apps. Indeed, specific apps like Uber, Target, and the Apple Store app will now permit users to make payments with the use of Touch ID.
Not only has Apple released the iOS 8.1 update today as well as its Apple Pay mobile payment system, the tech giant has also made public the results of its fourth quarter fiscal year 2014 (Q4 FY14) financials. And it appears that the company is just doing fine. According to the fourth quarter results (as of September 27th), Apple has sold more than 39 million units of its iPhone flagship device, more than 12 million units of its iPad tablets, 2.6 million iPods, and 5.52 million Mac desktop computers. Money-wise, the Cupertino company also managed to generate more than $42 billion in revenues, and in the process, got a profit of $8.5 billion. Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook credits some of Apple's very robust Q4 FY14 results to the record-breaking sales of its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices. Cook even makes a projection of the company's revenues in the next quarter -- falling somewhere between $63 billion and $66 billion.
