Earlier this week, Apple has deployed security updates for its operating systems, in order to deliver a fix for a message bug that causes mobile apps to shut down when trying to render a specific Indian symbol. This bug was discovered just a week ago, and it mostly affects iOS apps that can display characters, including popular services such as Facebook, Twitter, Messages, and even Instagram. What happened was that when an app tries to display a certain Indian character in the Telugu language, that app proceeds to crash and even become inaccessible by Apple users.
Apple has said this week that Meltdown and Spectre, the two newly discovered processor security vulnerabilities, can impact almost all of its devices, including iPhones, iPad tablets, and even Mac computers. But the tech giant is also taking the opportunity to point out that risk can be reduced significantly if Apple users make sure to download the newest software updates, which come with fixes for one of the flaws.
To date, the biggest wireless carrier in all of America does not support Apple’s Wi-Fi calling technology, which lets mobile users make and take phone calls via Wi-Fi connections on other iCloud connected handsets such as iPad tablets and Apple Watch devices. So, too, are a couple of prepaid brands of another major US wireless carrier, Sprint -- namely Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile -- which currently still do not have support for any of the Wi-Fi tech that the iPhone maker has begun using since it launches its iOS 8 mobile operating system back in 2014.
Many had predicted that Apple would register record numbers in terms of sales during the recently concluded holiday quarter. Well, it has now been confirmed that the tech giant has indeed generated very, very impressive revenue figures during that span of time. It also helped that the most recent holiday quarter was the first full quarter in which the new iPhones (the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus) were available in the market. And historically speaking, the holiday season has always been the best time for Apple in terms of sales.
Apple is making changes in the way it is promoting its apps for iOS and Mac. As seen on iTunes and on Mac App Stores, the apps that were previously labeled as "FREE" now feature a download button that reads "GET."
It is possible that the change is brought on because of persistent pressure from the European Commission, which earlier this year compelled Google to relabel its apps that offer in-app purchases.
For EU regions, Google relabeled the Top Free Apps into "Top Apps" and even altered its Top Free Games to "Top Games" in order to comply with the European Commission's guidelines.
