Lost in the ongoing price wars between Sprint and T-Mobile for Apple’s iPhone 6s is the news of Xiaomi introducing a new smartphone called the Mi 4c. The handset is being positioned a less expensive version of the Chinese phone maker’s flagship device Mi 4. Apart from unveiling a new smartphone, Xiaomi also took the opportunity to launch a couple of new prepaid packages for Chinese mobile users.
Xiaomi released its flagship device, the Mi 4i, in India a couple of weeks ago. Now, the Chinese phone maker is eyeing to roll out the handset in Singaporean and Hong Kong markets on May 12th of this year. The company is planning to release announcements for the Taiwanese, Indonesian, and Malaysian markets soon.
During an event held in the city of New Delhi in India, Xiaomi introduced its newest smartphone offering, the Mi 4i. Aside from being the first handset that the Chinese phone maker designed outside of its home country, this device is also marks the first time a Xiaomi smartphone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
The Mi 4i is expected to debut in the emerging Indian market (the handset is customized for Indian consumers), and will be made available for about $205 starting on April 30th this year. Although the device is introduced first for Indian users, Xiaomi will be offering the device later on in other markets where the China-based mobile manufacturer has a strong presence in terms of smartphone sales.
