Last year, Nintendo released its first ever mobile game for iOS users. The Super Mario Run app first launched on the App Store back in December 15. Ever since then, the app has been able to reach 78 million hits from iOS users. Surprisingly though, only 5 percent of players made a decision to get the full version of the game by paying $10 to unlock it.
About a couple of months from now, owners of mobile devices powered by Google’s Android mobile operating system will finally be able to experience Super Mario Run on their smartphones and tablet devices. According to tweets by Nintendo Japan and Nintendo USA, the best selling game will be made available to Android handsets starting on March of this year.
By any measure, Super Mario Run managed to register an outstanding initial sales run in its first four days. Indeed, the game from Nintendo just became the first mobile app to breach the 40 million download mark on Apple’s App Store.
For any sport fan, playing daily fantasy sports games does make their favorite sport a little more fun and exciting. But fantasy sports games are not always ideal when you are bent on watching just one sports team compete. Indeed, things get a bit tricky when the players you have picked from different teams are all playing their respective games live on different channels for instance.
Officially, Super Mario Run is the first game ever that Nintendo specifically developed to be played in mobile devices. But just recently, the app has achieved a new milestone -- becoming the fastest selling mobile game ever in the history of iOS. Super Mario Run accomplished this by managing to hit 40 million downloads in its first four days since wide release, as revealed as much by a press statement published by Nintendo.
Yup, you read that number right. According to a YouTube video posted by the official user account of Pokemon Go, players all across the globe have indeed walked a staggering 8.7 billion kilometers since the widely popular mobile game was first launched last summer. To put 8.7 billion kilometers into context, that is roughly equivalent to about 200,000 trips around our blue planet.
One day after Super Mario Run was made available in Apple’s App Store, the mobile game has already managed to break a record. It is even more amazing when you consider that the record being broken happens to be that of the phenomenally successful Pokemon Go.
Niantic has recently revealed new characters for its insanely popular mobile game Pokemon Go. Specifically, not only is the game developer adding new creatures from the Pokemon Gold and Silver games, it also unveiling a limited holiday edition of Pikachu. Clad in a cute Santa cap, this special version of Pikachu is made available across the globe, but only until December 29th at 1 PM Eastern.
Niantic, the creator of mobile game phenomenon Pokemon Go, is teaming up with major US wireless carrier Sprint in transforming the latter’s outlets into PokeStops and Gyms. For good measure, Sprint’s stores will also be fitted with in store charging stations so that Pokemon Go players can play for an extended period of time.
