This should come as welcome news for subscribers of AT&T (check out our 2017 review of the carrier) who are planning to go abroad during the upcoming holidays -- the second biggest wireless carrier in the United States has decided to update its Passport international data roaming packages. Travel happy customers can now avail of unlimited text messaging plus a gigabyte of data by making a one time $60 payment. For those who want more data, they can choose to get the 3 gigabyte option, which fetches for twice the price ($120).
Do not count BlackBerry out just yet. The once dominant but now struggling smartphone maker has announced that it has posted profits during the recently concluded quarter. It is now twice in a row that BlackBerry has managed a profitable quarter, thanks to an extensive cost cutting effort.
BlackBerry's fiscal fourth ends at February 28th. For the three month period leading up to that date, BlackBerry posted earnings excluding certain items of $0.04 a share. Wall Street had previously predicted that the phone maker would post a lot of $0.04 a share. Also, BlackBerry's shares increased 3.2 percent to $9.60 in premarket trading Friday. BlackBerry posted a profit in the amount of $28 million. A year earlier, the company sustained a massive loss amounting to $423 million.
BlackBerry recently unveiled an online offer (limited time only) targeted to users who are willing to trade their iPhone devices for the new BlackBerry Passport smartphone. The offer is set to take effect on Monday, December 1st of this year.
In this special offer, owners of iPhone devices can get up to $400 USD or CAD in credit if they swap their Apple phones for a new BlackBerry Passport. As part of the deal, BlackBerry will also provide a guaranteed $150 USD or $200 CAD on top of the trade-in value.
When Blackberry announced its Passport smartphone, no doubt many were a bit surprised, maybe even a bit perplexed, especially with regards to the device's odd square shape. Indeed, the handset's 4.5-inch square display screen is definitely unique when compared to other smartphones currently available in the market. Despite getting 200,000 orders within 2 days after its release, Blackberry's Passport has gotten mixed reviews. Some early feedback mentioned the device's unfamiliar design, its bulky size (which sometimes occupies much space in a bag or pocket), and the difficulty felt by users in trying to operate the handset using only one hand. However, that has not dampened Blackberry's enthusiasm at all. As a matter of fact, the company is as excited as ever in exploring and releasing other unconventional devices in the foreseeable future.
Blackberry recently announced its new Passport smartphone just two days ago, and it looks like the newly introduced handset is already making waves. At least, according to Blackberry's Q2 FY15 results. There were already 200,000 orders for the Blackberry Passport since the device went on sale last Wednesday this week. There is no doubt that the company is enjoying the rather impressive initial turnout of its Passport device, and all things considered, it is hoping that its Blackberry Classic and its more traditional Blackberry form factor will also sell well when it launches later this year.
During a launch event held recently in Toronto, Canadian phone maker Blackberry officially introduced its new Passport handset. The company's latest offering is, for lack of a better description, a bit unconventional. For one, it is shaped in the form of a square, which is rather unique in the world of smartphones. Quite frankly, no other mobile device looks like it, which could work well for Blackberry, at least in terms of differentiating itself from other handsets currently available in the market today.
