The Pokemon Company has released a new Pokemon themed mobile game called Pokemon Duel, and it is made available to both Android and iOS mobile users absolutely free of charge. This should be welcome news to fans of the whole Pokemon mythology, especially those ready to move on from Pokemon Go, last year’s ridiculously successful title that had players of all ages roam neighborhoods, streets, parks, and malls in order to capture monsters with endearingly cute names.
Yup, you read that number right. According to a YouTube video posted by the official user account of Pokemon Go, players all across the globe have indeed walked a staggering 8.7 billion kilometers since the widely popular mobile game was first launched last summer. To put 8.7 billion kilometers into context, that is roughly equivalent to about 200,000 trips around our blue planet.
One day after Super Mario Run was made available in Apple’s App Store, the mobile game has already managed to break a record. It is even more amazing when you consider that the record being broken happens to be that of the phenomenally successful Pokemon Go. Indeed, as reported by Apptopia, Super Mario Run registered a total of 2,850,000 downloads within the first 24 hours on the App Store. For comparison, Pokemon Go managed just 900,000 downloads in its first day.
Niantic has recently revealed new characters for its insanely popular mobile game Pokemon Go. Specifically, not only is the game developer adding new creatures from the Pokemon Gold and Silver games, it also unveiling a limited holiday edition of Pikachu. Clad in a cute Santa cap, this special version of Pikachu is made available across the globe, but only until December 29th at 1 PM Eastern.
Niantic, the creator of mobile game phenomenon Pokemon Go, is teaming up with major US wireless carrier Sprint in transforming the latter’s outlets into PokeStops and Gyms. For good measure, Sprint’s stores will also be fitted with in store charging stations so that Pokemon Go players can play for an extended period of time. This move grants the mobile operator the distinction of being Pokemon Go’s first partner in the United States, similar to what happened with McDonald’s in Japan, wherein more than 3,000 of its branches were turned into Gyms during the launch of the insanely popular app.
After holding its first ever special in-game Halloween event, Pokemon Go saw its revenues improve 2.3 times compared to the previous week’s numbers, according to data by analytics firm SensorTower. Moreover, the mobile game’s daily revenues were its best ever since September 10th, according to App Annie’s numbers.
Ever since it debuted back in July earlier this year, Pokemon Go has quickly become a hit in mobile markets around the world. Indeed, Apple has named the augmented reality game as the most downloaded mobile app in its first week ever, and Google has recognized the app as the fastest to rack up 50 million installs on Google Play.
The phenomenal popularity of the mobile game Pokemon Go may be starting to cool off -- according to the latest information from SurveyMonkey, the app has lost nearly a quarter of its users in the United States. It is hard to pinpoint the exact cause, but it may involve a combination of tracking issues, bans on cheating players, and simple consumer fatigue.
According to analytics firm NPD Group, sales of backup batteries for mobile devices have picked up in the two weeks that spanned July 10th until July 23rd of this year. That was also right around the time that the Pokemon Go mobile game was rolled out to the masses. Coincidence? Not likely, and backup battery makers can thank weirdly named little monsters (and their crazed hunters) for that.
Those who can not get enough of playing the Pokemon Go augmented reality game but need help improving their Pokeball throwing skills might want to check out the Pokeball Aimer. Basically, it is a 3D printable case for iPhone devices that is designed to guide the user’s finger into a more precise position when throwing a Pokeball to capture any one of those irresistible cute monsters with even cuter names. Sure, your rivals might accuse you of a bit of cheating when you use the Pokeball Aimer, but hey -- all is fair in love and catching Pokemon. And yup, we have already come to this point.
