During a recent event held at its headquarters in the city of San Francisco, Pinterest officially introduced Buyable Pins, a new and easy way for consumers to directly purchase items without having to leave the social network's environment.
Apple Pay, the mobile payment system developed by Apple, just recently added a couple more banks to its list of supported financial and business establishments. Last October, when Apple unveiled the official launch date of Apple Pay, the tech giant had announced that more than 500 banks have already signed up for Apple Pay. These banks are supposed to start rolling out Apple Pay during the last quarter of the year 2014 and on to the first few months of 2015. Joining the ranks of banks that now support Apple Pay are Fremont Bank and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Federal Credit Union.
Motorola was bought by Google three years ago for $12.5 billion, a sizable sum for a phone maker struggling to compete in the mobile industry at the time. Now, Google is ceding Motorola's physical assets to China-based Lenovo for just $2.9 billion. It is not a one-time payment deal, however. The Chinese company is paying Google an initial $660 million in cash and a further $750 million in newly issued stock. As for the remaining $1.5 billion balance? Lenovo is promising to pay the remainder over the next three years. It may appear to be nothing more than just your regular business acquisition, but there is actually more to it than just a company selling a business to another. One of the reasons Google bought Motorola in the first place was to have access to the phone maker's patents. It should be noted that Motorola is credited (patent-wise) with inventing the first mobile phone commercially available to consumers. Apart from that, Motorola has other patents that Google obviously wants to get hold of.
