According to a report recently published by South Korea’s The Bell, the world’s number one seller of smartphone devices might be officially unveiling its latest flagship offering, the Galaxy S9, in late February of next year. The formal introduction of the handset is rumored to happen at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is held yearly in the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain. In 2018, the event will run from February 26th until March 1st.
Today’s smart speakers are usually primarily designed for amplifying music and allowing users to manage their home controls, and not so much about taking care of phone calls. Mobile virtual network operator Republic Wireless, however, is building a smart speaker that is focused on phone calls.
Enter the Anywhere HQ -- an LTE ready smart speaker that people can use mainly to make phone calls, and for good measure, also provide verbal instructions to. Similar to how Google’s Home and Amazon’s Echo works, Republic Wireless’ Anywhere HQ can be activated by using a specific command phrase.
Back in February earlier this year during the annual Mobile World Congress held in the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain, Motorola had hinted that it had been busy experimenting with the idea of integrating Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant to its Moto smartphone devices, of course by way of a Moto Mod. Fast forwarding about eight months later and the phone maker is launching the new Moto Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa for the Moto Z.
The new generation Pixel devices are widely expected to be officially introduced by Google this coming Wednesday, October 4th, and mobile tech enthusiasts are no doubt excited to see how the follow ups will improve upon last year’s models. Plenty has already been discussed with regards to leaked images that surfaced in the interwebs nearly a couple of weeks ago, and we will all find out in two days if those leaks were indeed true. Still, it is worth going through the persistent rumors.
Sending a quick, important text message to somebody can get tricky when both your hands are occupied. But for those who are subscribers of AT&T and have access to Amazon Echo, this will not be a problem at all. Beginning this week, Amazon’s speakers, which are powered by Alexa, the company’s own voice controlled digital assistant, can now compose text messages for AT&T subscribers, and then send these messages to a pre-set list of contacts. The user needs only to command Alexa to ask AT&T to text that contact’s name, and Amazon’s digital assistant will proceed to doing it.
Apple is working on a competing product to Amazon’s Echo smart speaker, and sources familiar with the iPhone maker’s plans are saying that the device come with built in technology that can scan and recognize the user’s face. With this capability, Apple’s smart speaker would be able to see who is in the room, and play that person’s preferred music, and even set the lighting according to mood.
