Apart from announcing that it is planning to live stream the National Football League’s Thursday Night Football, Twitter also took the opportunity to officially reveal that it is launching a new service that should help enhance user experience, particularly in relation to the use of the social media giant’s Direct Message (DM) feature.
Animated GIFs and videos now auto play as seen on timelines on Twitter, whether or not they are viewed on the web or via Twitter's mobile app for the iOS platform. This means that any GIF, video, or Vine that has been uploaded natively to Twitter will now play automatically as users scroll through timelines (similar to how Facebook handles videos in its pages). As for Android users, the social media giant is currently working on a version that works on the Android platform, and it will be out soon.
Last year in November, Twitter had revealed its plans of introducing a few new features that promise to improve user engagement. One of these new features is a "While you were away" tool that would recap tweets that users may have missed while they were off busy doing something else. Now, it appears that this feature is starting to be rolled out by the social media company to a sizable chunk of its users.
