The new generation Pixel devices are widely expected to be officially introduced by Google this coming Wednesday, October 4th, and mobile tech enthusiasts are no doubt excited to see how the follow ups will improve upon last year’s models. Plenty has already been discussed with regards to leaked images that surfaced in the interwebs nearly a couple of weeks ago, and we will all find out in two days if those leaks were indeed true. Still, it is worth going through the persistent rumors.
As indicated in a new report recently released by Wave7 Research, it appears that Verizon Wireless is planning to set up 200 Next Gen Gen corporate stores in the next couple of years. The Big Red is reportedly approaching at least two major Verizon dealers in conducting trials for the initiative.
The idea of a Next Gen corporate store represents a fresh retail strategy for the biggest wireless carrier in the United States. Through these stores, Verizon Wireless can put itself in a good position to offer not only the usual smartphones and tablet devices, but also the latest virtual reality products.
What we know (almost for sure) is that on October 4th, Google is very, very likely to unveil new generation Pixel devices, which should neatly expand upon the Pixel and the Pixel XL released last year. Google has appeared to have launched a marketing campaign, by way of a landing page with the text “Thinking about changing phones? Stay tuned for more on October 4.” Obviously, Google would not want to reveal everything until the official unveiling event.
Not too long ago, HTC was considered as one of the largest phone makers of Android powered mobile devices across the globe. Some even say that the brand was one of the pioneers, especially with past releases like the T-Mobile G1 (which is viewed by many as one of the earliest Android phones), and of course, the Nexus One, the first ever Google Nexus smartphone.
When it comes to virtual reality (VR) headsets for its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus devices, Samsung itself already has a pretty decent offering with its Gear VR, even more so when taking into account the hordes of mobile apps and Oculus, as well as a new controller, that are compatible with the headset.
The one year anniversary of Google's Daydream VR platform is nearing. Yet despite its teasers and its own potential, the support of the industry for the platform has not been a strong one. As a matter of fact, only a few Android devices right now support Google's VR platform, namely the Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, ZTE’s Axon 7, and Motorola’s Moto Z and Moto Z Force.
For the past few years, virtual reality has become a big thing, especially with smartphones adapting to this technology. One of the best ways you can experience VR is through Google's Daydream platform. There is, however, a catch. Only a limited number of devices are compatible with the VR platform, namely the Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Motorola’s Moto Z, Huawei’s Mate 9 Pro, and Asus’ ZenFone AR -- which all cost over $600.
It is a known fact that Verizon Wireless is the only major mobile operator in the United States that is selling Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL devices. But because of some delays in the shipping of smartphones (due to high demand), some subscribers of the Big Red now find their purchases pushed back by weeks or even months.
Can Huawei successfully conquer the United States mobile market this year? It certainly thinks it can with the recent launch of its newest phablet offering, the Mate 9. The device comes with a rather formidable $600 price, and is the first smartphone in the world to be integrated with Alexa, the artificial intelligence (AI) digital assistant developed by Amazon.
Facebook may not have beaten YouTube to deploying 4K 360 live streaming, but it did get the jump on Twitter’s Periscope. This week, the biggest social media platform in the planet officially launched initial support for 360 degree live streams. National Geographic’s Facebook page will be the first to publish 360 Live video content this week as a bunch of researchers emerge from nearly three months of isolation in pods at the Mars Desert Research Station located in the state of Utah. Nat Geo’s stream will include interviews with the participating scientists as well as footage from the mock Mars landscape.
