Almost a week ago, Apple had already started sending out invitations for an event scheduled at 10 AM PT on Monday, March 21st of this year, to be held at the company’s headquarters located in the city of Cupertino in the state of California. Teasingly, the invitation features the words “Let us loop you in.”
No doubt, Apple fans are already peeing their pants in excitement, but for the benefit of those not closely following the iPhone maker’s every action, here is what you can expect at said upcoming March 21st event.
Apple is officially rolling out iOS 9.1, the first major update of the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 9, which debuted last month. With iOS 9.1, Apple is bringing in several new features and enhancements, notably Live Photos (which involves some nifty GIF flourishes). What iOS users will most likely be eager to check out though is the addition of a new set of emoji characters, including one for the middle finger.
Ever since it was launched last April 24th of this year, everybody more or less expected Apple's first and only wearable device to date to sell well. So far, the company is still mum on the issue of the exact number of unit sales for the Apple Watch. But according to data released by research firm Slice Intelligence, it appears that the tech giant's smartwatch is indeed flying off the shelves.
2015 may well end up as the year that wearable devices finally caught took off with consumers. Well, at least according to market research firm IDC.
As predicted by IDC, there will be an estimated 72.1 million units of wearable devices that will be shipped worldwide in 2.15. That number is truly impressive, especially so when you consider that it is equivalent to a surge of 173 percent compared to the 26.4 million units of wearable devices that were shipped last year across the globe.
And that is not all. IDC is also forecasting that wearable devices will see a compound yearly growth rate of 42.6 percent over the next half decade. This will result to a total of 155.7 million units of wearable devices that will be shipping by the time 2019 rolls in.
