Fall is approaching and the one thing that all iOS fans are looking forward to is the release of the new iPhone 6. The newest flagship iOS devices are rumored to again be released as a pair of devices. This time instead of the iPhone 5s and 5c, Apple is reported to be releasing two different sized iPhones. One with a 4.7 inch display, and another with a larger 5.5 inch display. The rumored names for these devices are thought to be the iPhone 6 for the 4.7 inch display device, and the iPhone Air for the larger, 5.5 inch display device. Whenever it comes to a new Apple device, there is always a storm of rumors that ensues, so I’m going to round up some of the most solid rumors that will give you the best idea of what the iPhone 6 will offer.
One of the most reliable rumors about the upcoming iPhone 6 release will be the change in the size of the display. Apple has finally realized that the market has been begging for larger screens on their smartphones and they are now reported to be releasing two drastically larger iPhones. These two new sizes of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches will allow Apple to better compete with competitor phones like the HTC One and the Galaxy S5 that have leveraged their larger screens as an advantage over the iPhone. Another extremely popular rumor pertaining to the display of the new iPhones speculates that at least one of the new iPhone models will come with a sapphire display. The signs have been pointing to a specialty sapphire and glass composite display which will allow for perhaps the most durable and scratch resistant smartphone display on the market. This, however, is still unconfirmed due to the costly nature of sapphire displays so we will have to wait and find out.
There has been speculation about when they will release both devices. Some think that they will release the smaller version first in September and the larger one later for either business reasons or a lack of manufacturing capability. A staggered release, however, has not been confirmed yet so we will have to wait and see.
There are so many different opinions of the upcoming design of the new iPhones but thanks to a manufacturer dummy phone that Apple has sent to case designers, we have a basic idea. It appears that the new iPhone will be considerably thinner than the current iphone and feature a much smoother design. Apple has geared the design of the new iPhones to much more of an iTouch look and feel. Although we get a good idea of the basic feel of the new iPhone, there are still a lot of aesthetic features that we will not see until the unveiling in September. A leak of the sim card trays has also hinted to a similar set of the three current iPhone colors, gray, white, and gold, but these are also unconfirmed.
Smartphone displays are definitely the flavor of the month in the smartphone world. With the new incredibly sharp displays that the HTC One (m8) and the LG G3 are offering, Apple has its work cut out for it. It has been speculated that the new phones are likely to bring a display that is at least above a 720p resolution. It is hard to believe that, with such stiff competition Apple will release a new phone that is under 400 pixels per inch, especially since phones like the LG G3 have already broken the 500 ppi threshold. Although Apple claims that the human eye cannot see the difference in a display more pixel dense than their Retina display, it would still be wise for Apple to appeal to customers with an improved display.
Some of the final noteworthy rumors include the new camera and battery sizes. It has been reported that Apple has partnered with Sony to improve the new camera for the iPhone 6. This is very exciting news because that would mean Apple is likely to switch to a larger 13 megapixel camera which could mean the iPhone 6 will offer one of the best smartphone cameras on the market. Other rumors have indicated that the larger model of the iPhone 6 may also include Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) but the smaller one would remain without it due to price limitations. The larger size of the new iPhone could also allow for a larger battery, which may make a big difference for iPhone users. While Apple has never gone with the biggest batteries, the streamlined iOS software has always allowed for much more efficient energy usage. The new iPhone could include battery anywhere between 2200mAh to 2600mAh, but of course that is entirely speculation based on the size of the phone in relation to competitor phones.
